August Auction Recap

This past week had an unbelievable turnout and results for our monthly auction! The six artworks sold racked up an impressive total of 197.24 ETH ($83K at the time of writing).

/XCOPY kicked off the week with “The Rabble”, a dystopian, media-related piece that contains a whopping 43 Layers (not including the secret ones!). Rabble #11-30 were immediately available for bidding and were snatched up quickly by MOCA and Snowcrash for 29.15 ETH total.

On Sunday, Rabble #1-10 also sold out successfully with Basileus joining the party as well as seizing control over the Media Headline Layers. Tokenangels showed up big time with a fierce bidding war for the coveted Master and XCOPY triggered his special Layer state within to celebrate.

Even the Async team was confused in the Discord as we thought he had taken down his artwork for a moment! TokenAngels finally won decisively with a 32 ETH bid and friendly banter was had as fellow bidders congratulated each other for the fair fight as well as the artist. (Shoutout to Cloudwhite for capturing that priceless moment with his Apple TV!)

Total sales for the Master & Layers was 85.33 ETH.

/XCOPY announced the 3 winners of the Rabble naming contest. Huge congratulations to the 3 individuals for earning themselves a prized Layer in this truly amazing Async artwork.

Saturday was dominated by our talented and beloved artist /Coldie3D. Before Pak’s astounding 97 ETH sale, Coldie held the record for highest Layer sale with “Decentral Eyes” for 77 ETH. If we learned anything during his four hour livestream, it was that Coldie is a true creative and trend setter.

Before his auction, he announced that he will split the proceeds from several upcoming 1/1 snapshot NFTs of "Choose Your Own Adventure" with the various owners of this piece. See his tweet for further details -- it’s wonderful to see artists experiment with new concepts, both in the art itself and how it is sold!

Coldie took us down a nostalgic journey during his auction. He revealed that “Choose Your Own Adventure” was nine months in the making with artistic elements that he created over eight years ago! We got to see the world through his eyes as he drew inspiration from his regular commute to work, psychedelic experiences, and even a 98 year-old friend.

A three-way bidding war erupted over the Master with Metapurse, an anonymous bidder, and Basileus fighting over the course of an hour for Coldie’s first solo Async piece. The anonymous bidder came out on top with a resounding 35 ETH sale.

The artist himself celebrated while many folks who won a Layer immediately started using them. It was clear as we watched Coldie on livestream that it’s never about the monetary gains, but always about the art - the ability to express himself and emotionally move people is what really drives him.

With a total sale of 78.15 ETH from Master & Layers, Coldie shattered his own personal best record and with ETH at $400+ USD value at the time of writing, this is quite an achievement. The Async community celebrated alongside him with a drink in hand after all the auctions concluded.

/Cultbitz debuted on Async with a Bitcoin-related piece titled “Satoshi’s Desk”. A week before his scheduled auction, the Master already received an impressive bid that exceeded his minimum reserve. By the time his Sunday time slot arrived, there was already a mini bidding war between Metapurse and an anonymous bidder. Metapurse was present at the auction to secure his win with 7.5 ETH. Total sales for this artwork was 12 ETH, another new personal record set by a cryptoartist!

More importantly, we had lots of fun discussing the artwork, music preferences and even late night work styles with our community. Cultbitz got a first hand experience of the support and friendly chatter that happens during one of our auctions.

Many thanks to all 6 artists - /XCOPY, /Coldie3D, /Cultbitz, /RutgervanderTas, /Primalcypher, and /BuzzLightning who made last weekend so memorable and exciting.

There are still some available pieces, grab them while you still can:

Buzz Lightning’s “Our Life Belt” - Master & The Life Belt Layer

Pr1mal Cypher’s “The Great Desire” - Different Realms, The Center and The Crowd, Sigillum Sanctorum, Monumenta Homage, Doors of Perception, Unicornis, Speculum, Atari, and Sideshow Layers

Cheers, and remember to follow our Twitter and Discord to get the latest updates on our next round of auctions!
