On Async Selling for Dai

When we think Async auctions, every transaction so far has been on Ethereum. The team has always been interested in exploring other currencies, and when we considered an Async piece to be auctioned off for DAI, our first thought was: “Which artist can make a compelling commentary on global currency and its impact on our society?”

Real simple answer: Carlos Marcial

The Latin-based artist has already challenged our perception of cryptocurrency vs fiat with his “Memorial to Victims of Fiat’s Money Violence” as well as his “Fiat est Violentiam” series on SuperRare.

In his latest Async artwork, “Art is the Currency of the Infinite” the artist is mixing traditional still life objects with items of modern technology, namely those that have capturing, listening, and memory capabilities.

The Layer is called “Tech Stack” for a reason. Every object is a recognizable household item, and the fact that they have become a household staple speaks volumes on why it sits on the table with other traditional still life subjects.

Consider how our lives have been transformed by technology the last couple of decades. There are tools to help us remember and to record and listen to sounds we normally would not have access to. As well as replay moments in time to the almost exact same clarity.

The upside of using DAI is that it is a stablecoin soft pegged to the US Dollar and backed by ETH and other crypto collateral. For artists or creators who rely on generating a consistent, steady stream of income as their livelihood, selling in DAI is really ideal.

Carlos Marcial will be auctioning off this stunning piece on OpenSea for DAI on Sept 5th, starting at 10:30am PST. Join us in Discord and Twitter to learn more about all the different Layers and how they work within the piece.
