Fabin Rasheed is an artist, designer, innovator and technologist working at the intersection of creativity and technology. Fabin's body of work revolves around creating tools for creativity or using technology to augment creativity and make art, using a different set of technologies like Artificial Intelligence, AR/VR, Gestures, Voice, Generative arts and more.
Fabin’s work has been featured around the world: from Florence Biennale (Italy), to Ars Electronica Global Gallery, to Contemporary And Digital Art Fair (CADAF). He holds six patents and multiple publications in creativity and technology and has been creating inspiring and innovative programmable art since early 2020.
As an innovator, Fabin has seen an influx of AI-based art created from real life datasets like photographs and paintings. All of these works see machines learning and getting inspired from human works of art and to create a similar form of creativity, however Fabin believes the true essence of creativity lies not just in the act of repeating or simulating part or whole of an inspiration, but also to be to create surprises, new connections and something which is unique and unrepeatable. It is arguably said machines cannot replace human creativity - an original artwork may be inspired by AI, but the human adds a unique touch which makes it singular.
With this in mind in late 2018, Fabin and his friend Sleeba Paul, decided to work on the idea of an AI artist living in the clouds, creating poetry from everyday life. This is how Auria Kathi, an anagram for “AI Haiku Art” was born. The idea for Auria was for her to be able to create poems which do not make complete sense at the beginning but have some meaning to them eventually. The concept of Auria as an artist was further developed - she was in fact able to create art inspired from the world. She was in fact created by merging the creation of poetry and art from everyday life and with the idea of “what if an AI artist can get inspired from the human world, can a human artist get inspiration from AI?”

This is how the idea of an Augmented Artist was born. One who gets his/her inspiration from AI and the AI augments the human artist in return creating a continuous exchange between the two. Auria produces art from a generated poem and paints it based on her “mood”. Her works are abstract yet there are relations that derive from it.

For this series , Fabin started using Auria’s AI poems and AI artworks as the “thought predecessor” for his art, interpreting Auria’s work and then adding his own creativity to it. The medium he chose to express this is acrylic on paper. The result is the Augmented Artist Series showing a utopian world in a possibly cubist setup. A beautiful expression of a concept from the artist's own personal experience triggered by AI art.
How we derive this art from AI is how this artwork becomes an original. It’s not just a one single concept that Auria has helped Fabin with, but the whole creative process from the shapes, to the color palettes and even the style. Fabin used AI also to reinterpret the hand painted version to it’s style again, thus creating a cycle.
The Augmented Artist Series is a programmable art project available for bidding on Async Art - with 1 Master and 1 Layer with 6 different states of the Augmented Series:
- Pearl
- Punch
- Empathy
- Holy Shit
- Ugly
As you can see, a beautiful expression of a concept from his own personal experience was triggered by AI art. He sees tremendous power in how AI could be used for inspiration into art and for creating new art styles. Such AI art could augment and reinforce the process of creation by humans. Different modes of expression could be derived from an AI based inspiration.
